The Big Announcement

I’ve decided it’s time. It’s time for me to be in the driver’s seat of my own career trajectory in a much bigger way than I have been up to this point. I’m making the big, bold decision to step out of my full-time role with Cumberland Marketing and into my own adventure.

I am going to be my own boss. I’m going to be an independent contractor with my own marketing services operation.

Now, don’t take this to mean that I’ll no longer be associated with Cumberland Marketing. If you are a current client reading this, there is no need to assume that I won’t be helping with your marketing strategy well into the future. Chris Bowen, the owner of CM, has negotiated a contract work agreement with me, one that I’m very happy to continue for the foreseeable future. That contract includes lots of provisions for me to continue helping the agency grow and helping my current clients find the success they desire. For accounts I work with now, not much is going to change.

I have loved being a part of Cumberland Marketing for the last four and a half years. My relationship with CM, and most especially the Bowen (and Humphreys) family is one that I cherish. I am one of the lucky few that gets to call my boss, my friend and mean it. Because I’ve been so fortunate to develop a strong relationship with Chris, he has encouraged me every step of the way as my skills have developed and changed. That growth that he has fostered and encouraged is exactly why I’m taking this step forward.

I have never been good at sitting still. I like change and progress. I like to push myself to achieve more. It’s just how I am fundamentally built. It’s time to push that boundary again and take another step outside my comfort zone. Though it’s incredibly cliché at this point, I really do think there is something to be said for that old chestnut about “if you’re not growing, you are dying.”

Starting June first, I’m going to be offering media strategy, copywriting, and digital services. I’m passionate about good public relations strategy and that isn’t something I get to do a lot of in my work at Cumberland. I love crafting strategies to mix paid, earned, and owned media to meet a goal. I’m excited to have the chance to write more, as I once did. I also really enjoy working with small businesses and often, they can’t afford a marketing agency, but my hope is that they can afford an independent contractor. And of course, as anyone who works with me now knows, I understand the value of a good website and intend to offer those too. Learn more here.

Whether you are a big business, a tiny startup, or even an agency in need of some help filling in the gaps, I would be thrilled to talk to you about how I can help create a solution for your needs. If you think you might be interested in working together, let’s chat.
